About

CorTec is a Freiburg-based German neural interface developer of the Brain Interchange system, an ECoG-based closed-loop brain-computer interface pairing subdural electrode arrays with wireless signal processing for real-time seizure detection and therapeutic stimulation in drug-resistant epilepsy. In April 2026 CorTec secured FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for Brain Interchange — the first German BCI company to reach that milestone — giving it expedited FDA review as it enters a US market where NeuroPace's RNS System already holds approval for responsive neurostimulation. In the same month, CorTec reported that Brain Interchange enabled a stroke patient to control a computer cursor using decoded motor cortex signals alone, with stable signal acquisition from damaged motor regions.
