About

Brain Interchange is Freiburg-based CorTec's electrocorticography (ECoG) brain-computer interface platform, combining subdural electrode arrays with wireless signal processing to deliver closed-loop therapeutic stimulation. The platform employs proprietary flexible electrode technology designed for chronic cortical recording, and reads high-resolution ECoG signals across larger cortical areas than conventional deep brain stimulation systems in order to support more precise seizure prediction and intervention. In April 2026 CorTec became the first German brain-computer interface company to receive FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, covering real-time seizure detection and intervention in drug-resistant epilepsy. Separately, the system enabled a stroke patient to control a computer cursor using only motor cortex signals, with stable signal acquisition and real-time decoding of motor intentions. Electrode and channel counts have not been disclosed in sourced coverage.
